A fully registered therapist is bound by the ethical code of conduct outlined by the professional organisations of which she/he is an accredited member.
The code of conduct recognises that your well-being, personal information and confidentiality is paramount. This means that your privacy is of the utmost importance, and will be respected at all times. This serves to reassure you and develop a deep therapeutic understanding, knowing that what is being discussed during the session will not be revealed to any other person.
In addition, the therapist is ethically required to have your signed consent before passing on any information or having discussions with anybody, in your regard.
There are exceptional cases where the GP and the therapist may need to make a referral to an outside agency in the interest of your welfare and safeguarding. You will be consulted well in advance of any such referral.
